National Dog Day lands on August 26 this year, and we figured it was time to introduce the actual first responders at ACi headquarters: the dogs who live with the people who keep this company running.
We spend most of our working hours thinking about reliable processes and what happens after something important gets sent. Our dogs have their own take on that same job, and honestly, it's a little more dramatic than ours.
A car slows down outside. A door shuts somewhere down the block. A box lands on the porch. Whatever alert system you've got on your phone, it's too slow. The dog already knew.
Sure, the notification is louder than it needs to be, and half the time it's not even about your package. It's a squirrel, or a leaf, or something only the dog can see. But strip away the noise and the actual job gets done: notice the change, sound the alarm, make sure someone comes to check. Dogs were running that playbook long before anyone put a doorbell on Wi-Fi.
The Dogs Behind the People Behind ACi
Everything ACi does comes down to people. They're the ones fielding customer questions, untangling technical problems, and helping organizations get real visibility into their Accountable Mail workflows. And behind a lot of those people is a dog who's already decided the workday is basically about them.
They don't know what Accountable Mail is, and they don't care to learn. But they've got their own job description, and they take it seriously: guard the door, inspect every package that dares to arrive, remind you when you've been at your desk too long, and be generally unbothered by whatever's happening on your Teams call in the background.
So for National Dog Day, we wanted to give those unofficial team members a little credit.
What Dogs Know About Routine
Dogs run on routine the way some of us run on caffeine. They know exactly when breakfast is supposed to happen, when someone's usually walking through the door, and precisely how many minutes late that afternoon walk is running. Once a pattern exists, they hold you to it.
There's something to that. Good processes aren't built on heroics or last-minute scrambles. They're built on repeatable steps and information you can actually trust when you need it, not just when it's convenient. Our dogs would probably put it differently. Their version mostly involves parking themselves by the food bowl ten minutes early and staring you down until you get the hint. But the point lands just the same.
The Companions Who Share Our Days
National Dog Day gives us a good excuse to step away from workflows and screens for a minute and talk about the personalities who actually make up daily life at ACi.
Our dogs are there when the day starts and there when it ends. They keep the remote folks company on long afternoons and drag the rest of us away from our desks whether we asked for it or not. And they've got a real talent for inserting themselves into whatever's going on, invited or not.
They're part of this team, even if their HR paperwork is a little thin.
